Farne Islands October 2019.
Always a risk diving around the UK at the latter stages of the year. We always liase with the skippers, and William Shiels assured us that a favourable forcast was in the offing.
The journey up to Northumbria is usually nothing of note and passes without comment. This year was a real exception, torrential rain all day and many accidents and breakdowns on the A1 almost doubled most peoples journey times. Most importantly, we all eventually got there and Friday evening was spent the English way, comparing hideous journeys in the Bamborough Castle Inn.
A complete reversal on Saturday morning, the sun was out, the sea was calm and a late ropes off of 10.30am let eveyone have a leisurly breakfast and kit up.
Two dives over the day off one of Billy Shiels Glad Tidings, a spacious hardboat with diver lift, gave everyone the chance to play with the seals. Visibility was restricted due to a lot of rain the previous week. Case of sitting and waiting for the seals to come and investigate the strange bubble blowers on their turf, and they did not disappoint.
The crew give great service with cylinders being taken away and returned Sunday morning fully charged, thanks for that guys.
Saturday evening was spent in our favorite Italian, Ensieme. A little hidden gem restaurant in Seahouses.
The Beach House Hotel is our accommodation of choice in Seahouses. Located right on the sea front, very comfortable, great breakfast and just five minutes from the harbour, perfect.
Sunday morning we were relieved to see the sun was still out, no rain, just a tad windier so the sea had a bigger swell than the previous day. Didn`t detract from the diving however with a great choice of sites giving us some protection. More seals than anyone could cope with meant that everyone had a silly grin at the end of the day.
Quick visit to the Neptune Fish bar for traditional fish `n chips and it was back down the A1 and home.
Another wonderful Diveworld weekender. 2020 is already on the calendar, September 18th, get your name down and join us next year.
